Family Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is an art, science, and philosophy that is based on the inherent recuperative powers of the body to heal itself. Chiropractic care focuses on maintaining the vertebral column free of subluxations/spinal dysfunction through the use of a spinal adjustment. This can restore normal movement, relieve pain and stimulate proper transmission of mental and neural impulses between the brain and your body. The primary focus is the integrity of your nervous system, which controls and regulates the function of every tissue in your body. To this end, chiropractic offers three types of care:

  • The first is Relief Care, which usually reduces or eliminates the symptoms;
  • Then begins Reconstructive Care, which corrects the years of accumulated stress on the body;
  • Finally, Wellness Care is continued care to keep the body as healthy as possible.

Chiropractors not only strive to alleviate your symptoms as quickly as possible, but also educate you on how to prevent recurrence of future symptoms. Every new patient in our office receives an extensive consultation and examination, followed by a clear explanation of what we found, what we can do to help, how long it will take and how much it will cost. This allows our patients to make informed decisions about their health.

As part of our commitment to high quality patient care, we use advanced technology including an on-site Digital Radiography system, which provides excellent images while emitting less radiation than conventional x-ray systems. Our use of electronic record keeping and insurance claim filings limits our use of paper and allows us to do our part for the environment.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy
Over a decade ago, NASA noticed that astronauts were relieved of low back pain when they were in anti-gravity environments. They found that spinal disc heights were increased during space missions. With these scientific findings, a new technology was developed called Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Decompression machines are specialized, motorized traction devices that allow your healthcare provider to position your spine and target an area for decompression therapy. They work by gently stretching your spine. This “stretch” creates a negative pressure within your spinal disc and allows disc material that was herniated or protruded to be pulled back into the disc. It also helps promote the movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the discs so they can heal.

You should consider this type of therapy if you have:

  • Suffered back or neck pain for over one week
  • Sciatica
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Degenerative disc disease (DDD)
  • Worn spinal joints (posterior facet syndrome)
  • Injured spinal nerve roots (radiculopathy)

Eurotech’s DOC Decompression table used at Hands-On Healing is Health Canada approved, which may not be the case with other decompression machines used at other clinics.

Registered Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is a vital part of your health care plan. It can be used independently or as a wonderful compliment to other manual therapies. Massage therapists employ a variety of hands-on techniques to assess and treat the soft tissues and joints of the body. Improved circulation of blood and lymph, decreased pain and inflammation, improved mobility, relaxation and stress reduction are all positive effects of therapeutic massage. At Hands-On Healing, all of our massage therapists are registered with the regulatory College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Our therapists will work in partnership with you to create an individualized program of care.

Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathy provides a non-invasive approach to health that stimulates the body's innate healing potential. Naturopathic Doctors seek to find the underlying cause of illness rather than simply suppressing the symptoms that are present. Symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body, and unfavourable lifestyle habits. In addition to diet and lifestyle changes, natural therapies including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation and traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, may also be used during treatments. Holistic practices address the whole body, identifying imbalances and striving to bring the body back into balance.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture promotes healing and improves body function by inserting ultra-thin, disposable needles into very specific points on the body. The World Health Organization has recognized the use of acupuncture in the treatment of many different diseases, disorders and pain conditions. Common ailments that respond well to acupuncture include: muscular and neurological conditions, tendinitis, arthritis, headaches, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, respiratory disorders, digestive disorders, skin problems, and disorders of the urinary, menstrual and reproductive organs.

Custom Orthotic Inserts & Footwear
Custom orthotics (inserts, shoes and sandals) are orthopaedic devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical foot disorders. Almost anyone, from children to adults, can benefit from orthotics. Orthotics can alleviate many common foot problems that cause pain and discomfort in otherwise healthy people. We here at Hands-On Healing take a digital impression of your foot to have custom-made devices made that are crafted to meet your specific needs. Orthotics can relieve arch and heel pain while properly aligning your body from the feet up.
